TLC Questions - Week of April 22, 2007

* TLC Questions From John 4:21-24*

“True Worshipers “
For Israelites, worship was centered in the Exodus experience – what God had done for them by setting them free from the bondage of slavery in Egypt. For Christians, worship is centered in the gospel – what God has done for all believers by setting them free from the bondage of sin and death. Christian worship celebrates the life, the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ for the salvation of all who believe.
Therefore, Christian worship is not limited to any day of the week or to any particular season of the year. Christians are free to worship God in their personal time with Him throughout the day and corporately as they come together in fellowship with other believers.

1. (vs 23) Jesus said that “true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for
they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.”
** What criteria sets ‘true worshipers’ of God apart from other religious groups?
** Where is the truth of God found?
** Who claimed to be “… the way and the truth and the life”?
** Where is this statement found?

2. (vs23) The Father “seeks” or craves true worshipers.
** Do true worshipers need create a certain atmosphere in order to worship God?
** What factor sparks or generates true worship to God?
** Do we offer in worship a gift that we enjoy or what God will enjoy?

3. (vs 24) “God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”
** How does this relate to what Jesus taught in John 3:6-7?
** Who qualifies to be able to “worship the Father in spirit”?
** In what area do Christians communicate with God? (see John 14:15-17)

4. (vs 24) ”.. worship in spirit and in truth.”
** Does your worship cause you to focus your heart and mind on God?
** Does worship have the capacity to draw you nearer to God?
** Does worship have the capacity to transform you as you give to God?
** What factor sparks or generates true worship to God?

"It is good to give thanks to the LORD, And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; To declare Your loving kindness in the morning, And Your faithfulness every night" (Ps 92:1-2).

True worship is not confined to singing in church or open praise, but it is the acknowledgment of God and all His power and who He is in our lives. To truly worship God, we must know Him and not be ignorant of His good and glorious nature (Acts 17:23). In a nutshell, worship is to glorify and exalt God; to show our loyalty and admiration to our Heavenly Father!

There are many others, why is Jesus so special; why do you think He is who He claims to be? She answers in verses 10-16 by giving a detailed description of Him. His beloved recognizes the many beautiful things about Him that can only be known by having a close and intimate relationship with Him. To know Jesus is to love Him and to love Him is to know Him. Many go to the extent of just knowing about Jesus Christ but not really knowing Him in a personal and intimate way. How about you?

We need to take His Word and His Promises and give them to others in this lost and dying world.

“How Big is God’s Kingdom?”

On His way to Jerusalem Jesus had an encounter with a tax collector named Zaccheus. The name Zaccheus means ‘righteous one,’ but for the most part tax collectors were known to be anything but righteous. Tax collectors worked for the Roman government and the Jews considered them unclean Gentiles and traitors to Israel. Tax collectors also enjoyed great wealth because they collected more taxes than required from their fellow countrymen, the Jews. In this story the Lord shows us that His Kingdom is much Bigger and much Greater than anyone can ever imagine.

TLC Questions From John 5:1-15

“Power in His Word”

We are not told which feast Jesus was observing when He went to Jerusalem and it doesn’t matter. His main purpose for going was not to confirm a religious tradition, but to heal a man, and then use that miracle as the basis for a teaching. (read verses 16 through 30). We find this practice of Jesus all through the gospels. First He acts on the truth and then He teaches on what He has acted on.

1. Verses 3-5 describe the misery of sin in this world.

  • Did God create man to be full of aches, and pains, and infirmities?
  • What brought all this misery into the world?
  • What is the root and cause of every disease?
  • When will there no longer be aches, and pains, and infirmities and why?

2. There were a “great number of disabled people” around that pool.

  • Why did Jesus single out that one man to heal?
  • Why did He pick out you for salvation?

3. Verse 6. Why would Jesus ask this sick man such a question?

  • Do you believe that Jesus is far more ready to heal than man is to be healed?
  • Do you believe that some people are not interested in getting well? Why?
  • Do you believe that Jesus was really saying, ‘Are you willing to put yourself, just as you are, into My hands?

4. Verse 7. Why didn’t Jesus wait for the “water to stir” then help him into the pool?

5. It was not the man who first spoke first but the Lord. Jesus always takes the initiative,

and invites Himself.

  • Do you remember when He was speaking to you before you were saved?
  • Could you have rejected His offer of salvation?
  • Will Jesus force Himself on someone who is not willing to be saved?

TLC Questions From Mark 5:1-15

“Victory Over Demons”

Jesus along with His disciples crossed the Sea of Galilee, and as their boat pulled up on the shore of Gadara they were met by a man who had been possessed by demons. This entire scene would seem unreal to us who live in so-called “modern civilization”, but not so for those who serve in the many mission fields throughout the world. Rather than “writing off” the man, Jesus set him free and helped him become a source of blessing for that whole region of Decapolis.
